SPHRE

The world in data, set in Helvetica.

Data first, auditable always

SPHRE is an independent global data publication created by Phillip Bindeman. It is funded personally by its creator: no advertising, no sponsorship, no commercial data agenda. Infrastructure and model costs run on the creator’s own accounts and startup cloud credits.

How the work is made

Charts use source data directly or validated, provenance-stamped snapshots. Every figure names its dataset and links to the upstream source. Definitions and institutional estimates remain distinct when they measure different things.

Editorial and automation policy

SPHRE writes from an international lens: countries are protagonists in their own histories, and no capital is the default narrator. Daily briefs and some stories are machine-drafted, labeled as such on the piece, and published only through the verification gates documented on the methodology page. The full policy — whose voices carry contested events, how disagreeing estimates keep their names, what the pipeline will not assert — is published on the editorial page.
